Greetings from Amsterdam! I wanted to start this blog by showing you some pictures of where I live; I know it's always helpful for me to be able to picture something. This is the base for YWAM Amsterdam, De Poort. It's where their administrative offices are housed and also where I live. There's a courtyard in the middle of the building, and my room is on the third floor looking down into it. Here are some photos of my room. It's one of the larger ones, which is really nice, and they all have great windows. I don't think there's a bad view anywhere in Amsterdam! I just got the new duvet cover on the bed (from Ikea, the mothership of all decorating stores), and I'm hoping to paint the walls turquoise this weekend.

This is the common room where we cook and hang out. There's 2 or 3 kitchens per floor, so there aren't too many people trying to use it at once. It's a nice place to socialize with the people who live near me.

And finally, I'm including a few photos of the neighborhood. I took these yesterday while walking to the nearest grocery store. It's beautiful!!! I really can't get over this city--I love it. These were taken later in the evening; since we're so far north, it stays light until about 10:00 p.m. in the summer! It's nice, but I find that I don't go to bed until 12 or 1, which isn't good the next day!

Wow! It's so neat to see where you're staying and how you'll be living. I love your color choices in your room and can't wait to see a picture of it when it's painted! And what a beautiful neighborhood! Keep us updated and enjoy your time there...

Hey lovely daughter, It's so great to get to see where you're living. Technology is so great, what would we do without it? I love the bedspread and pillows and can't wait to see it all painted. And the pictures from your walk are beautiful. The kitchen area is cool too. And the grass & trees are the greenest I've ever seen!! Can't wait to see it all in SIX MONTHS!!! I guess I'll have to live through pictures, emails and phone calls until then. Love ya bunches, Mom

John [in his most drab voice ever]: Sweet blog...lucky.

Sarah [looking slightly confused]: Are you trying to do Napolean Dynomite impressions again? Didn't you realize that movie went out of style about 10 years ago?

John [with a sullen look]: But but but...I was home schooled! I don't know anything about style!

[meanwhile, back at the ranch]

Jim Bean: Martha! Get those chickens back in the pen!

[that last comment was not supposed to mean literally back at the ranch, you stupid storyteller]

[John wakes up from a horrible nightmare]

I don't know why I just wasted that much space in your comments.

Thanks for the pics! Post more! It's cool to get to see where you're staying and stuff. How far is the grocery store from where you live? Love ya sis, bye bye.
